Museum of Prehistory

Among the most interesting places to visit in Valentano is the Museum of Prehistory of Tuscia and Rocca Farnese inaugurated in 1996 right inside the ancient residence of the noble papal family. A perennial exhibition divided into several sections in which the finds found in the archaeological sites of northern Lazio and dating back to an era between the lower Paleolithic and the early Iron Age are exhibited. An extraordinary introspective journey into the historical memory of this beautiful Italian region that tries to bring to light a millenary history. In the second part of the Valentano museum, however, artifacts are exhibited that testify to the development of the territory since the early Middle Ages, with particular attention dedicated to the history of the Farnese family, which without a shadow of a doubt, they were among the most influential nobles in the Tuscia area between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries. Among the many works on display, the famous majolicas found in the so-called butti of the castle deserve a particular mention, and the wedding trousseau of Pier Luigi Farnese and Gerolama Orsini of 1519 was also found in the same. A beautiful journey between art and culture, in which to better understand the identity of this land by delving into its most remote past that fascinates and surprises for its peculiarity.
