Church of San Giovanni Evangelista

Church of San Giovanni Evangelista

The collegiate church of San Giovanni Evangelista is one of the most important churches in the municipality of Valentano in the province of Viterbo. Built around the year one thousand in pure Romanesque style, this ancient religious structure is one of the most interesting places to visit in the whole country, both for its aesthetic and architectural value and for its spiritual and social value. The sacred structure took the name of parish in 1253 by the will of Pope Innocent IV. Inside the church is presented in a beautiful Baroque style which is the result of an important restoration which took place between the end of 1600 and 1700. Among the most interesting sacred works to admire you will find a fresco of the Crucifixion attributed to Marcello Venusti but also a wooden statue of the Madonna Assunta from the seventeenth century donated to the parish by the priest GB Lazzari.
