Tuscania

Tuscania is one of the oldest and most beautiful villages in the Tuscia area. The city stands on a rocky promontory that winds between the Marta and Capecchio rivers and is only a few kilometers from the famous Lake Bolsena. The history of Tuscania is lost in the mists of time, what emerges strongly from the many archaeological finds made in this area is the centrality that this village had in the development of the whole area known as southern Etruria. Tuscania, in fact, was one of the most important cities for the Etruscans as evidenced by the presence of large necropolises: Pian di Mola, Madonna dell’Olivo, Ara del Tufo and Salette. A picturesque town of immense historical value, a magical place in which to relax and discover ancient treasures, such as the beautiful churches of Tuscania: the church of San Pietro and the one dedicated to Santa Maria Maggiore both located outside the city walls of Tuscania, and both built in the eighth century. Also beautiful is the church of Santa Maria della Rosa which stands out for its strong Romanesque-Gothic style, but also that dedicated to San Silvestro built in 1300 or that of San Marco in which frescoes of rare beauty are jealously preserved.
Tuscania boasts an unprecedented architectural charm that emerges from its richness and variety of stylistic forms. Among the unmissable monuments of this inhabited center there is the seven Cannelle fountain or source of the Butinale. It is a splendid fountain located along via della Lupa and dates back to the Etruscan and Roman times. Completely restored in 1309, the Butinale fountain bears a beautiful epigraph of a coat of arms of the municipality of Rome, on which you will find the famous initials S.P.Q.R (Senatus Populusque Romanus). Tuscania is one of those places where art and nature come together in a perfect mix, making it a fantastic travel destination for those who love contact with nature, long walks but also a lot of adventure, charm and mystery. Precisely for this reason among the unmissable places in Tuscania we cannot fail to mention the Torre di Lavello park, a beautiful garden with unique colors and scents that offers a suggestive view of the imposing basilica of San Pietro. A heavenly place in which to dedicate moments of total and absolute relaxation in the pleasant company of the beauties of Tuscania.
