MONTEMERANo

Montemerano

Fraction of the municipality of Manciano (Gr), located a few kilometers from it, Montemerano is a pretty village nestled on a hill, near Saturnia and its famous spas, immersed in the Maremma countryside. The town is located about 40 kilometers from the west shore of Lake Bolsena. Despite its modest size, the town is among the most fascinating in this whole area and in the whole of Tuscany, included among the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Montemerano has kept its medieval aspect intact with alleys, squares, breathtaking views and characteristic taverns (some very famous) where you can enjoy the excellent local cuisine.
In the oldest part of the village surrounded by walls which is accessed by beautiful gates, Piazza del Castello is one of the most characteristic, which has remained unchanged since the Middle Ages. Another famous square is Piazza della Chiesa, overlooked by the Church of San Giorgio, a jewel of Romanesque art that houses an exceptional collection of Renaissance works of art among the most beautiful in the Maremma. The walls are still visible in part, in part they have been incorporated by the houses but the charm of the town has not been affected.
Among the events that take place in Montemerano during the year, one of the most famous is the Witches’ Festival which takes place on Halloween night. The village is transformed with the classic atmosphere linked to this festival: masks, music and much more for an event that attracts many visitors.
