Acquapendente It is a village in Tuscia which is located halfway between Tuscany and Lazio, a sparkling town with a typically medieval look. The country combines natural beauty, art and history like few others in the whole territory. Acquapendente draws its strength from its popular culture, which still lives on today through various village festivals that take place every year within the city and aim to make the most of local food and wine products. Among the most particular is the singular Peasant Festival, a historical event dedicated to the rediscovery of the city. The most important event in the town, however, is the Festa dei Pugnaloni which takes place in mid-May.
Acquapendente is a border village and for this reason the city has had a strategic role in the dynamics of territorial political hegemony since its trees. The Acquapendente origins are very ancient and partly shrouded in mystery. Some scholars hypothesize that in the territory there was an inhabited center founded by the Etruscans and then occupied by the Romans, while others assume that the true birth of the city is to be found in the history that goes from the 9th to the 10th century. Certainly one of the factors that most influenced the development of Acquapendente is its position along the V.via Francigena which connected northern Europe with Rome. Today this city presents itself with its medieval soul and its character strongly linked to traditions, as one of the most interesting centers of northernLazio to visit. The Torre Julia de Jacopo welcomes those who arrive and leads them directly into the historic center. The city is surrounded by his walls , which preserves many interesting historical places inside. The basilica of San Sepolcro it is the most important religious building. In the historic center there is also the church of San Francesco, much smaller than the basilica but just as interesting to visit. The structure dates back to 1149 AD. Outside the city walls there is the Museo del Fiore, a unique botanical exhibition of its kind. For those who love nature in the Acquapendente territory it is advisable to visit the RMonte Rufeno reserve, ideal for trekking and being in close contact with nature.
