Farnesian Costume Museum

Farnesian Costume Museum

Inaugurated in 1998, the Farnesian Museum of Gradoli is one of the most original exhibitions in the province of Viterbo. The museum is located inside the historic Palazzo Farnese, the summer home of Pope Paul III, and inside there is a permanent exhibition that represents the evolution of costume and fashion at the courts of the Farnese family in the period between the fifteenth and the XVII. The museum of the Farnesian Costume is divided into multiple rooms within which it is possible to admire a vast reproduction of noble and popular clothes, underwear but also accessories, weapons, armor and Renaissance jewels. Since this fashion came to life right inside the walls that host this exhibition, each room has been restored to its former glory in fact, you will also be able to see the ancient utensils used in the kitchens or for various domestic tasks such as spinning. The clothes reproduced inside the museum were born from the observation of frescoes, paintings and prints from various periods ranging from the 15th to the 17th century.
