Church of San Rocco

Church of San Rocco

Capodimonte is a village rich in art and history, full of places to visit such as the church dedicated to San Rocco. It is an ancient religious building with a very picturesque style, dedicated to the protector of the town. The building was built in 1837 by the population of Capodimonte to pay homage to the saint, who, according to local traditions, would have intervened during the cholera epidemic, averting the danger. On the altar there is an inscription that reads “pro periculu vivimus, pro gratia fecimus” or in the moment of danger we took a vow and received the grace we carried it out.

The church of San Rocco is located on the lakefront and fascinates precisely for its elegant and particular appearance even if its nineteenth-century origin is well perceived. Inside the recently restored structure, the frescoes by the painter Martin Figura are visible. Inside, moreover, every year on the 15th and 16th of August an important religious celebration takes place that involves the entire Capodimonte population.
