Aquarium of Bolsena

Aquarium of Bolsena

The Bolsena aquarium is one of the main museum attractions of this picturesque village in the province of Viterbo. The property is located inside the Monaldeschi della Cervara fortress at the Territorial Museum of Bolsena. It is a new area inaugurated in 2011 wanted by the province of Viterbo. Inside the museum, the aquarium was born as an autonomous structure, but in reality for most visitors it is considered the completion of the historical archaeological path of the simulabo. Inside the Bolsena aquarium there are about 30 different species including fish, amphibians and crustaceans, coming primarily from the lake, but also from rivers and streams of the provincial territory. 22 tanks specially made to recreate the original habitat for each fish. To accompany the visitor on this particular underwater journey there are countless audiovisual and interactive supports that allow everyone to visit in complete autonomy. It is also possible to request guided tours and educational paths alongside workshops for young visitors. The Bolsena aquarium, from a scientific point of view, the message it proposes is mainly linked to the ecology of inland waters with particular attention to the natural dynamics and biological processes of the species that inhabit them. Furthermore, the aquarium also makes use of important collaborations, first of all with fishermen who, although not technical, are the main connoisseurs of the marine world of Lake Bolsena, but the structure also proposes itself as an important local reference for related teaching to inland waters and scientific for the experimentation of farming techniques, which is why it makes use of the collaboration and sharing with the fishing centers of the province of Perugia, the University of Tuscia, Tor Vergata and with the wildlife observatory of the Lazio region and with the natural reserves of the province.
